Two Names – One Painting. Which name would you choose?

This painting was started early this spring and is based on a crazy, blurry photo I took of an amazing Rocky Mountain stallion from the McNatt Farms in Tennessee. I loved this stallion, Destiny, who was athletic and beyond beautiful! He really put on a show for me running at liberty in his grassy paddock. I’d already singled out this pose to be part of my Horse Ballet series, but the lower half of the painting – with the trees – was inspired by springtime!

I’ve always loved the color of the young springtime leaves as they unfold for the new year – especially paired with the pale blue sky and the browns of tree trunks. Incorporating these trees into this painting seemed like a perfect fit! And I thought “Spring” would be the perfect name for the painting.

Until my husband did not really like that name….And Rocky Mountain High sprung into my brain!
