Kairo Stars in my Newest Horse Ballet Painting
First let’s discuss the title of this painting. . . . It’s a strange one. At least to me! Ballet has its own vocabulary – luckily for me! This painting depicts the Andalusian black stallion Kairo floating above the ground. He looks magnificent and regal with his head held high. And seems to defy gravity – suspended in the air. A basketball player would call this hang time. A dressage rider – impulsion. Hmmmm, would there be a ballet term for this air time? Time for Google! That’s how I discovered “ballon” . . . Thank you Google!
According to Wikipedia, Ballon is the “appearance of being lightweight and light-footed while jumping. It is a desirable aesthetic in ballet and other dance genres, making it seem as though a dancer effortlessly becomes airborne, floats in the air, and lands softly.”
Et voila – that’s the perfect word for this Horse Ballet painting of Kairo!
Needless to say, I love Kairo. This is the second Horse Ballet painting starring this stallion from Herradura Andalusians in Denton, Texas.
